Getting started

When you install and power on the thermostat for the first time, or after performing a factory reset, the Startup Wizard will guide you through the initial setup process. This process ensures that your thermostat is configured correctly for your specific needs and location. Here’s a step-by-step overview of the setup process:

Speedheat MCD5
  1. Region: Set the time region where the thermostat is located. This setting ensures that the thermostat applies Daylight Saving Time correctly and keeps accurate time. To select your region, tap the appropriate option and confirm with “√”.
  2. Language: Choose the language you prefer for the thermostat’s display. The thermostat supports multiple languages, allowing you to select the one that is most comfortable for you. Tap your preferred language and confirm with “√”.

3. Date: Set the current date to ensure your thermostat’s scheduling features work correctly. Tap the parameter you want to change, then use the “Up Arrow” or “Down Arrow” buttons to adjust the day, month, and year. Confirm each setting with “√” to save.

4. Time: Set the current time so that the thermostat can operate according to your desired schedule. Tap the parameter you want to change, then use the “Up Arrow” or “Down Arrow” buttons to adjust the hours and minutes. Confirm with “√” to save.

5. Floor Type: Choose the type of flooring in the area where the thermostat is installed. You can select between Tile (for floors made of tile or stone) and Soft Floor (for wooden or other engineered floors). The thermostat will adjust its heating algorithm based on the floor type to optimize comfort and efficiency. Confirm your choice with “√” or discard it with “X”.

Once you have completed these setup steps, the thermostat will be ready to control your underfloor heating according to the preset heating schedule. If you wish to modify the heating schedule at any time, instructions are provided in the Heating Schedule section of this manual. This flexibility allows you to adapt the heating to your changing needs or preferences, ensuring your home remains comfortable year-round.

General Operation

The thermostat features a high-resolution color touchscreen that makes it easy to navigate through menus and change settings. In addition to the touchscreen, the thermostat has an ON/OFF switch located on the left side for easy access. This switch allows you to quickly power the thermostat on or off as needed.

When you change a setting, it’s important to always tap the “Accept” button, shown on the screen as “√”, to save your changes. This ensures that all your adjustments are properly registered and applied. If you wish to return to the previous menu without saving changes, tap the “Back” button, represented by an arrow pointing left. To cancel any unsaved changes altogether, tap the “Cancel” button, marked with “X”. Understanding these basic controls will help you navigate the thermostat’s interface with ease.

Operating Modes

The thermostat offers seven different temperature control modes, each designed to meet specific needs:

  1. Scheduled Operation: This is the default mode where the thermostat automatically follows the programmed heating schedule. It is ideal for maintaining a consistent and energy-efficient heating pattern throughout the week.
  2. Manual: This mode allows you to maintain a specified temperature continuously, overriding the scheduled events. It’s perfect for times when your routine changes unexpectedly, and you need to manually adjust the heating without altering the weekly schedule.
  3. Comfort: Comfort mode can be used on special occasions when you want to temporarily override the current schedule—for example, when hosting a party or staying up late. In this mode, you can manually set a comfort temperature, which the thermostat will maintain for a chosen period (from 1 to 23 hours) before automatically returning to Scheduled Operation.
  4. Boost: Boost mode quickly heats the room for a short duration. This mode is useful when you want to rapidly warm up a space that has become cooler than desired.
  5. Frost Protection: This mode keeps the temperature at a safe minimum to prevent freezing, which is especially useful in colder climates or during extended periods of absence.
  6. Holiday: Holiday mode maintains a lower temperature while you’re away on vacation, helping to conserve energy while preventing the home from getting too cold.
  7. Eco: This function optimizes energy usage for maximum efficiency and can be enabled in the User Settings menu. When activated, Eco mode adjusts the heating schedule to minimize energy consumption without compromising comfort.

Each of these modes can be accessed directly from the home screen or through the “Other” menu, depending on your preferences and the specific mode you select. For detailed instructions on how to use each mode, please refer to the relevant sections in this manual. Understanding these modes will help you get the most out of your thermostat, ensuring your home is always at the perfect temperature.
