Myth 1: Underfloor heating installation is costly
One of the biggest myths about Underfloor Heating is that it is a luxury and costs a lot to install. Thanks to technological developments, underfloor heating is now comparable in cost to other forms of heating.

Myth 2: Underfloor heating is expensive to run.
Another common myth is that underfloor heating is costly to operate. However, because you can control when and where you use it, underfloor heating doesn’t necessarily cost more than other forms of heating.
It’s important to note that the closer the underfloor heating elements are to the floor surface, the faster it heats up. Heat rises, so you don’t need to wait for the entire room to warm to feel the heat. Thanks to Thermostats, each room can run on different schedules and settings, accommodating everyone’s temperature preferences.
Additionally, underfloor heating can be connected to solar power. Please consult your electrician about this option.

Myth 3: It’s unsafe or causes health issues.
Underfloor heating is safe to use under any floor surface since there are no exposed wires. In bathrooms, it’s safe to cover the shower area as water does not come into contact with the system. Additionally, the systems are connected to safety switches in the switchboard for enhanced protection.
For allergy sufferers, underfloor heating is the best option as it doesn’t circulate dust. It’s also ideal for the elderly, providing gentle, consistent warmth.
Underfloor heating does not create any emissions. Since electricity can be generated in environmentally friendly ways, it is one of the most sustainable heating options available.
Some facts about Speedheat’s unique technology:
The Speedheat Element
- Its discreet design includes internal and external insulating sheaths that withstand heat and high voltage. The fluoropolymer insulation is fully waterproof and corrosion-resistant.
- All Speedheat heating elements feature a full earth screen for electrical safety, meeting IEC standards.
- Earth shields play a crucial role in enhancing the safety and efficiency of underfloor heating systems. These shields consist of an insulating material, such as aluminum or copper, wrapped around the heating cables.
- By providing an additional layer of protection, earth shields help prevent electromagnetic interference and ensure the integrity of the heating elements. This shielding technology minimizes the risk of electrical faults and improves the overall performance of the system.

Myth 4: It takes too long to heat up.
Speedheat’s cables are only 1.5 mm thick. Because of this, they sit close to the surface, allowing you to feel warmth within 30–40 minutes, depending on the floor covering thickness.
This is important to homeowners, as it makes our system ideal for renovation projects. If you’re updating just one room, you won’t need to worry about floor leveling changes, which makes the renovation process much easier.
Myth 5: It’s only suitable for tiled floors.
Underfloor heating can be installed under almost any floor surface that is not nailed down.
- Timber floors: The floor temperature is limited to 27°C to prevent damage.
- Carpeted floors: The system is installed on the underlay just before the carpet is laid.
Each floor type has specific installation requirements. please make sure you check with your flooring manufacturer on whether they allow underfloor heating and we are happy to provide information on the best installation process to ensure the best performance of our heating to go with your floors.
Myth 6: It’s difficult to install in existing homes.
Underfloor heating can be easily installed if your floors are being pulled up. In an average three-bedroom house, installation can be completed within one day!
Important considerations:
- An electrician is required to ensure sufficient power supply and circuits.
- Coordination with trades is crucial. We recommend installing flooring 1–2 days after underfloor heating to avoid prolonged exposure.
If underfloor heating remains exposed for extended periods, tools or debris can potentially damage the heater. Our monitor will sound an alarm if the heating element is cut. In such cases, we can repair the element to restore functionality.
Even if you’re renovating a small powder room, underfloor heating can be easily added. Simply provide us with your floor plans, and we’ll deliver an obligation-free quote within two business days!
The Future of Underfloor Heating
Underfloor heating is becoming increasingly popular due to environmental reasons and the global shift away from gas towards renewable energy sources. While misconceptions persist, embracing advanced heating technology is crucial for creating comfortable, efficient, and sustainable homes
